PRESENTER: Patrick Reilly, M.S.
TOPIC: “Building Your Executive Presence ”
EXERCISE FOR: “BUILDING YOUR EXECUTIVE PRESENCE”
Present an example of your current “presence” or “style,” a demonstration of how you act (“gravitas”), how you communicate and how you appear.
Prepare a simulated discussion, an interaction that is about 6-8 minutes in length. It could be an interaction with one person, several people, or a large audience. It could be a pitch, presentation or discussion. It’s most helpful to practice an interaction that gets someone to support, enlist, accept or buy into something. It’s only 8 minutes max, so we would like you to talk without notes or PowerPoint. SIMULATED DISCUSSIONS:
This is a good opportunity to practice a sales pitch, but there are other important interactions that need attention as well. For instance, you could:
Role play as a manager:Simulate a discussion with an employee who thinks he is surely going to get a promotion but needs to be told he isn’t being promoted.Simulate breaking the news that a project was cancelled and that some layoffs would start soon.Role play promoting your organization or yourself: Simulate a recruiting talk to a group of considering joining your organization or companySimulate a pitch for a particular position to someone who is skeptical that you’re the right or best choice for it.
Just choose a topic that you can relate to, one that is meaningful for you, in which your intention is to influence someone or a group of others.
